What is a network controller? Easily explained
If Windows reports a problem with the network controller, this usually has far-reaching consequences. We explain what it is and how to solve problems with the network controller.
Network controller: what is it?
- The network controller is a component in computers. The network controller is also called a network card.
- The controller in the computer ensures that you can connect to other networks and computers. Mainly access to the Internet is made possible.
- You will find a rather large, square LAN connection on every computer and almost every laptop. The network controller is hidden in the computer case behind the connection.
Solve problems with the network controller
- The network controller belongs to the group of network adapters. The network controller usually only controls the LAN connection of the computer. The WLAN connection is controlled with a second network adapter (if available).
- Since the network controller is a component of the computer, this component requires a driver. A driver is software that allows communication between the controller and the Windows system.
- If problems occur with the network controller, this is mostly due to drivers that are not installed or outdated. You can manage and update these yourself in Device Manager.
