Photography: what a portrait is
A portrait is a photograph of a person. What is particularly important when taking pictures is to capture the character of the person portrayed.
- The image section of a portrait shows the whole body, a half-length portrait, the head or just the face of the model.
- When taking portraits, photographers take pictures head-on, in half-profile, in three-quarter profile or entirely in profile. Because people look very different in photos depending on the perspective.
- Capturing the character of the person portrayed in photos is usually the main goal of portrait photography. When photographing, the focus is therefore on the face, more precisely on the eyes of the subject.
- By the way: Passport and police photos are also strictly portraits. However, this is of course not about reproducing the nature of the person portrayed in the photos.
