How does VPN work? Easily explained
VPN connections are considered extremely secure on the Internet, but very few people know how they really work. We will explain it to you and show you exactly and precisely what is behind VPN.
VPN - what is it and how does it work?
The abbreviation VPN stands for the "Virtual Private Network" (virtual private network). You can anonymously use the network via a VPN connection:
- Install a VPN software on your computer or smartphone, use an encrypted IP connection from the VPN provider from now on. This connection is encrypted so that government organizations or hackers can hardly gain access. Your provider can no longer understand your surfing behavior.
- For example, if you connect to an American IP address using VPN software and go to shopping websites, the shop owners believe that customers from the United States shop with them. This means you surf the web anonymously.
- The advantage of a VPN connection is not only the lack of transparency in the network. The location of the servers from the VPN provider is equally important. A software usually offers several locations, so that a user from Germany, for example, gets a Russian or American identity. This means, among other things, that websites can be visited that are blocked for legal reasons by German users.
In the next practical tip we will show you how to set up a VPN server under Windows and thus surf completely anonymously.
