Windows 10: update or reinstall? You should do that
Windows 7 and 8 users can update directly to Windows 10 or completely reinstall the operating system. We show you which method suits your needs.
Windows 10: This speaks for the new installation
- The update to Windows 10 is offered and recommended by Microsoft. Windows 10 will be released on July 29, 2015, but not everyone will get the update immediately. Windows is gradually distributing the major upgrade to users.
- If you want to be one of the first to use Windows 10 in the final version, you will most likely only have to install it manually. From the release you will find the final version of Windows 10 in our download area.
- Since millions of users worldwide will download the approximately 4 GB operating system, server failures will likely occur. If the update is offered to you, server problems can put a spanner in the works.
Windows 10: arguments for the update
- Of course, the convenience speaks for the update. If the upgrade to Windows 10 is not so important to you and you do not have to be one of the first, you are also well served with the update. Windows does everything in the background and informs you as soon as the installation can start.
- With the update, if everything runs correctly, you also keep all your data and do not have to back it up externally. If you do not want to search your PC for hours on important files and save them externally, you should also stay with the update. However, a backup cannot hurt.
If you have installed Windows 10 via update, you can still reinstall Windows using the built-in function. You can find instructions in the practical tip "Restore Windows 10 without CD".
