Windows 8: Start Bios - how it works
Windows 8 starts at lightning speed compared to its predecessors, so there is hardly any time left to start the BIOS. We'll show you how it works.
Windows 8: Start BIOS or UEFI
Many new Windows 8 laptops have the successor UEFI instead of the BIOS. UEFI stands for "Unified Extensible Firmware Interface" and, in contrast to the old BIOS, is much slimmer and also easy to understand for laypersons. There is a way to call this for both UEFI and BIOS:
- UEFI and BIOS: Since you only have a fraction of a second to press the right button, this process can take longer. Depending on the manufacturer, the F1, F2, F8, F10, Del, or Esc key must be pressed. Switch your computer off and on again and the first thing to do is to make three buttons that you press repeatedly when you start up. If this did not work, shut down the computer and try again.
- UEFI: Move the mouse to the top or bottom right of the screen so that the Charm Bar opens. Click on "Settings" below and then select "PC Settings". Click here on the "General" menu item, scroll down and click on the "Restart now" button under "Extended start" (see image).
