Access SFTP with Windows Explorer: With Swish it is possible
Enter the access data to your server to establish a connection
So you have access to your server in a short time
In contrast to FTP, SFTP offers an encrypted connection and establishes a single direct connection between client and server. This makes the connection between you and your server more secure than with FTP. Instead, the file transfer runs via SSH - the server must support SSH accordingly.
- With Windows Explorer you can easily connect to an FTP server since Windows 7. For SFTP you need a tool to make this possible: Swish. Download and install the Swish-SFTP installer.
- Start Windows Explorer and navigate to "This PC".
- In addition to your drives, a "Swish" drive is now displayed under "Devices and drives". Open it with a double click.
- Now select the "Add SFTP connection" button in the line above.
- A small window opens in which you must enter the access data for your server. The standard port for SFTP is 22. However, this can be different in your case. Contact your provider for more information. Fill in all fields and confirm with "Create".
- After successfully dialing in, the newly created SFTP server is displayed in the "Swish" folder. Open it with a double click.
- When you open it for the first time, you must first confirm that you trust the server and then enter your password. Confirm this with "OK"
- Now the specified folder opens on the SFTP server and you have secure access to your files.
