Windows: Change folders via CMD - how it works
In the Windows command prompt (CMD) you can change the folders and navigate through directories. In this practical tip, we reveal which commands exactly work.
CMD: Change folder by command
You start the CMD console under Windows with the key combination [Windows] + [R] and the code "cmd". Then you are automatically in the path "C: \ Users \ Username \".
- If you want to change to a different folder, use the "cd path" command. Example: Use "cd C: \ Program Files (x86) \" to navigate to the program folder.
- But even if you don't know the exact path, you can navigate with the console. To do this, enter the "dir" command to display all the folders in your current directory.
- Then select a folder from the list and open it with the command "cd folder name". You can find a detailed example in the screenshot.
- If you would like to move up a directory again, use the "cd .." command. For example, if you are in the "C: \ User \ Username \" directory, this command takes you to "C: \ User \"

Once you have reached the correct directory, you can delete individual folders with CMD.
