Word spell checker: Enable multiple languages
If you often write Word documents in different languages, a spell check that covers several languages is very convenient. Read below how to activate all languages that are relevant to you in the Word spell checker.
Set up multilingual spell checking in Word 2010
- First, select the "Review" tab.
- In the quick start bar, go to the "Language" dialog box and then choose "Language settings".
- In the "Set Office Language Settings" menu, go to "Select editing languages" and in the pull-down menu "Add additional editing languages", select the languages that are relevant to you.
- The selection is very extensive and ranges from Afrikaans and Tatar to Zulu. However, there is a catch: Even if the languages are offered, you probably don't have the language pack on your computer. By default, the German word includes the spell checker for German, English and French, whereby German and English are usually already activated. You have to buy additional language packs (see next paragraph).
- Select the desired language, confirm with "add" and activate the keyboard layout with a last click of the mouse.
Purchase language packs for Word from Microsoft
- If you have selected a language whose correction aid is not yet installed on your computer, you will see the note "not installed" under "Document check".
- If you follow the link, you will be directed to a Microsoft website where you can purchase language packs for Word 2013.
- If you need language packs for Word 2010, follow this link.
