XBOX One: Carry out an offline update - how it works
If there are problems with the update installation or there is no internet connection available, you can also install offline updates on Xbox One. In this practical tip we will show you how.
Step 1: Transfer offline update from USB stick
- First, download the latest firmware version of the Xbox One. The download on the Microsoft website starts automatically.
- The firmware is around 4 GB. Accordingly, you need an empty USB stick that offers at least 4 GB of storage space.
- Most USB sticks are formatted in the FAT32 file system. However, you need the NTFS file system for the update. Here you will find instructions for formatting USB sticks.
- After downloading, open the ZIP file and copy the "$ SystemUpdate" file it contains to the empty USB stick.
Step 2: install offline update on Xbox One
- Turn off Xbox One and unplug the power cord from the back. After 30 seconds, reconnect the console to the power.
- Press the "BIND" button on the left of the console and the "EJECT" button on the front.
- Press and hold the two buttons while pressing the Xbox button on the console.
- Keep the two buttons pressed for about 15 seconds. If the start tone sounds a second time, you can release the buttons.
- Connect the USB stick to Xbox One and wait for the troubleshooting to start.
- Select the "Offline system update" from the menu and wait until the process has been completed.
